The Suscipiat is a special Latin prayer incorporated into the Mass of the Roman Catholic rite. In the Tridentine Mass, it occurs in the Offertory, and it is recited by the altar servers in response to the Orate fratres.
All altar boys (later to become known as altar servers) were required to memorize it, and it was especially difficult for many. The Latin verse is : "Suscipiat Dominus sacrificium de manibus tuis, ad laudem et gloriam nominis sui, ad utilitatem quoque nostram, totiusque ecclesiae suae sanctae." A translation used in the English vernacular is: "May the Lord accept this sacrifice at your hands, to the praise and glory of His name, for our good and the good of His Holy Church."
