Priesthood of the Believer actually refers to the corporate spiritual ability of all born again believers in contradistinction to the sacerdotal priesthood expressed in Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodox Christianity. Whereas in the liturgical groups, it is contended that the believer needs a priest in the mediatorial role between the believer and Christ, Baptists and some other evangelical groups teachthat the individual believercango directlyto Jesusin prayer and confess his sins and immediatley receive forgiveness and assurance of that forgiveness directly from Christ based upon the merits of His Blood shed at Calvary, by which the repentant believer is cleansed of all sins.
