Caste is a social rank in Hinduism. Brahmins are priests and scholars, Kshatriya are rulers, Vaishya are peasants, and Shudra are serfs. Good karma enables one to improve his caste in the next life.

Today, caste discrimination is illegal in India but still persists in rural areas.
