Ascension Day is held on the fortieth day after Easter, a chronology that follows the Acts of Apostles. It states that Jesus met with his disciples over a forty-day period before being taken up to Heaven in their sight. His parting words were a command to stay in Jerusalem until they receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Ascension Day begins a ten-day period of prayer for the gift of the Spirit, in preparation for Pentecost.
